Get Busy...

I work in a Senior Center where anyone over 50 can come and partake in the activities. The center has two floors.

I see some of the same people come in every day and some of them have the same routine. They, arrive, perhaps by bus and then they plop them selves infront of the TV set, which plays all day long and there they sit till lunch. They get up, eat lunch, and back to the TV set they go till the day is ended. The never make it to the second floor.

The Second floor is where all the different hobby and game spaces are; Woodworking, weaving, quilting, painting, pooltables and cards, and a work out room.

I was thinking about the people I see, and how they always seem to be waiting. Waiting for lunch, waiting to go home.

I've watched them and I have been thinking of a movie I really enjoy, and in particular one line from it.

The movie is The ShawShank Redemption. In it Morgan Freeman plays a character named Red, and narrates the story from that viewpoint. At one point he says "Get busy living or get busy dying."

I look at my life and I wonder what am I doing. Am I busy living or dying?

Getting busy living would mean to me trying to improve myself and my situation. To Procover just a bit more each day. To learn something about myself and how I operate with my limits and what I can do. To get a little better at handling life on lifes terms every day.

Dying would be to give up, just wait for death.

What are you doing? Are you busy living or dying?

I hope living!
